FAQ

Q: What is the primary purpose of The Sacagawea Drone?
A: The primary purpose of The Sacagawea Drone is to provide the quickest route for new students on campus to their class. This navigating drone takes input from the new student as his/her desired destination and, in turn, leads him/her on the quickest route to that specific destination.

Q: What drone will you be using and where will you obtain it from?
A: We are using an AR Parrot Drone 2.0 Elite Edition. It was obtained from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering parts store, located in the Bossone Engineering building. A demonstration of the drone model we are using is provided in the Tutorials tab.

Q: Why did you switch from the Arduino products to the Raspberry Pi computer?
A: The original design using Arduino products was found to be the equivalent to a senior design project (i.e. was too difficult for us to design and build a working drone from scratch). We determined that Raspberry Pi is our next best option.

Q: Is the Arduino GPS sensor compatible with the Raspberry Pi computer?
A: Yes (see Tutorials tab). We had already purchased a GPS sensor along with the other Arduino products, so no other purchase of a GPS was necessary.

Q: What software will be used for coding?
A: The software program being used for coding is JAVA.

Q: How will your code be compatible with the code already existing in the drone?
A: The code already existing in the drone was found in a library online (see the Tutorials tab). The code is compatible with JAVA.

Q: How will the drone read and follow your code instructions?
A: The Parrot drone we are using came with a Wifi shield which will detect and follow our code instructions.
